Namibia and Canada Children's Music Collaboration:
Pilot Project
This message is for all interested primary schools in Namibia. We would like to start a pilot project to facilitate music and cultural exchange for the production of Namibian-Canadian children’s artist Garth Prince.
Summary: We seek an interested school to start an extra-curricular music club with a few students who can sing in the Damara language of Namibia. About the Artist: Garth Prince is a JUNO award-winning Namibian-Canadian vocalist, drummer, educator and recording artist who delivers exciting and engaging concerts and workshops that treat international audiences to a taste of his native homeland in southern Africa. Read more about him on his website: www.garthprince.com When and where: Recording will happen in Swakopmund or Windhoek in July or August 2024. Number of students: A range of 6 - 12 students (aged between 9 and 13 years old) for the recording, but you are welcome to teach the music to more students if they are interested. We will send digital materials from January to June to help prepare the students and teachers for the recording project. This includes music recordings and clearance forms for parents to sign. Payment: A donation of N$5,000 (five thousand Namibian dollars) will be made to the school upon completion of the recordings. The school will also receive a box of Garth Prince’s award-winning children's books. How to apply: Please complete the short form on the right by December 10th. The most suitable school will be selected for this pilot project, but we aim to create an accessible program for all schools in the long run. |
